Social media videos can be the easiest way to put engaging content out that your audience wants to consume. They tend to be short and less likely to follow television standards. They range from Facebook lives where you speak to your audience in real time, short skits that showcase your brand in a fun way, quick “gif” like videos that repeat imagery and information, or a more standard video like testimonials or product overviews. If you can imagine a video for your brand that excites you, it will most likely excite your consumer base.
Think of it this way, you’re reading this post because you want to learn more for your business, but if you had the option for a video on the same topic, you’re more apt to watch the 30-second video over this post. Video content is the easiest and fastest way to consume information, and brands like yours need to take advantage of that.
In the past few years, the platform Snapchat became popular because of the short videos that were being shared. It was easy to put information out in bite size pieces that people ate up. Brands were sharing tips and tricks in 10 seconds or less. No wonder Facebook and Instagram copied their format soon after and put a “story” feature of their own on their platforms. Now Instagram and Facebook’s “story” features are even more popular than Snapchat.
Consumers love video. According to Digital Information World, video content accounts for at least 74% of internet traffic, and at least 55% of people watch online videos every day. That number has definitely grown during this time and will continue to be high even after everything is back to “normal.”
Plus, video is content that your customers want to see. Hubspot studied the reach of video and the content that consumers engaged with. In that study, they found that 54% of consumers want to see even more video from brands they follow. Beats television advertisements that people tend to fast forward over. People watch videos on social media. They share videos on social media. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter make it easy to interact and share content brands make. Good for both you and your consumer. You get genuine feedback and engagement. Your consumer feels involved and closer to your brand.
Plus, social media platforms tend to favor video when showing items in the newsfeed. They get more shares, likes, and views on average than a standard post.
It’s just a fact, video has holding power. Both on social media newsfeeds and with your audience. Another study from Hubspot reported that 80% of users could recall the video ad even 30 days later and are more likely to buy the product after watching the video.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, imagine what a social media video is worth.
In a sea of photo after photo after photo, a video can make your audience stop scrolling and actually consume your brand. And a video post has a higher organic reach on Facebook than a photo post according to Social Media Today. That means more eyes on your content, more top of mind awareness of your brand, and more chances to make a viewer a consumer.

But television advertising hasn’t died. It’s evolved in the modern market and shouldn’t be immediately dismissed. Video has always been a great medium to use because of what it can evoke in such a short amount of time. That’s why television became such a popular medium for both consumers and advertisers.
Why is video such an important advertising medium?
Imagine you own a restaurant. You want to promote your Tuesday night special, which is a delicious, mouth-watering steak. How would you want someone to learn about it? Even though video has been a huge component to advertising, the world of television has seen its competition. In the 21st century, television advertising has seamlessly moved to a more digital world. Hulu still has commercials on their lowest priced subscription. Channels like ABC and NBC provide free shows online with unskippable commercial breaks. News programs play their broadcasts online and on mobile devices with commercials included. Television commercials still exist and have upped their game by moving some content online.

There are always hits or misses when it comes to marketing. Some venues are better than others and you might be wondering if television advertising is still right for your business.
Reaching the Rest
Depending on your target audience, television marketing might be better than going to straight digital marketing. Digital marketing has great reach for a lot of your clientele, but it doesn’t reach everyone.
If your product or business is directed to older generations, television advertising is still one of the best forms of advertising. Older generations and rural areas are more dependent on getting their news and entertainment from television. Sometimes, they don’t have access to the best internet or the most up-to-date equipment. Plus, one ad spot can reach a mass audience.
If your community has a huge sporting event coming up, you know their eyes will be glued to whichever channel the game is playing. It would be a great opportunity to get a video commercial for your brand on that channel.
Versatility of the Medium
When you create an ad campaign with a :15 or :30 video, not only can you use it on all television platforms, but you can push ads towards Hulu or Youtube. Fifteen second ads are universally used on many marketing platforms and, if done right, can be cost effective. It’s not recommended to do this with all ad campaigns. You’d want to truly understand your audience before doing so, but it’s a good jumping off point if you’re still not sure about your return on a television ad spot.
So, as a marketer and advertiser don’t count out television advertising just yet. Television networks and providers are already on the lookout to better expand their own brands and help you advertise. Plus, there’s enough consumers still parking themselves in front of the television for events, the news, and their favorite programming to make television advertising a valuable part of your marketing strategy.
